Great movers

We had Gem movers to move from Toronto to Barrie. 3 guys showed up on time, worked well as a team and went over and above. Price was very reasonable. Would highly recommend this company.

Thank you to the staff. You made our move much more relaxing.

Unprofessional.

From the moment the movers arrived at the house the were asking for money. They did not value their space on the truck and left boxes in the house that we had to arrange to move on our own time. They also refused to get boxes from any other levels then the main floor.  The truck was not loaded safely as items were placed all over. Once they arrived at delivery destination they demanded full payment or they would not unload the truck. After 45 mins of arguement they got the stuff off the truck. Final price was over charged and NOT what quoted either. They also were rude to my wife and very unprofessional. Would NOT recommend their service to anyone. .

We moved over 4 bedroom house in 4 hours & cost him only $510. Steve got over 100 boxes & he wants us to take everything in 1 truck load. That's what happen when you don't want to make a second trip. Steve should be thankful to the movers that they worked efficiently & quickly.

The absolute worst moving experience ever.

I ended up doing most of the work myself. The 2 movers they sent were just a couple of young scrawny guys. Movers kept asking for drinks. Worst of all they damaged several walls in my home and are now denying that they ever moved anything for me even though I have the invoice from them that was provided. Please please please do yourself a favour and stay away from this moving company if you value your possession or the integrity of your home.

Service cost: $505

Official company response

Oladotun asked for the online estimate for his move but never booked with us. Never confirmed anything with our company. After asking for the name, phone number he contacted he got no idea who they dealt with. He needs to contact the company he hired.

Exceptionally awful, extortionary business model.

We called the police because these grifters refused to unload our things until we paid extra charges for an extra hour. They needed an extra hour so they could move as slowly as possible and take calls while on the clock while we helped them load and unload.

When they finally did unload, they damaged multiple pieces of furniture. I suspect that was intentional. I think the owner, Nick, (he's happy to scream at you on the phone btw) is a scam artist, but the movers might just be genuinely incompetent and passive aggressive. Worst moving experience I've had, or heard of.

Service cost: $250

Official company response

We never moved anyone with a name of Lauren We like Lauren to provide the proof of the move. This is a fake review posted by our business competitor or their agent. Customer needs to provide more details of the move such as moving date, address & phone number. We never had any business dealing with such a client. Stop defaming our company reputation.

Worst experience with any company ever.

They were 2 hours late, (we asked for them to be there for 10 am, didn’t show up until 12:30) argued about having to be paid in the driveway for an hour (which we payed for even as they were two hours late). Tony’s excuse for this was that we didn’t call back to confirm, even though we had a reference number and time of arrival. we were overcharged on our quote massively. They only filled half the truck up with furniture and we had to rent a uhaul and go back to our house and get the rest. The movers were unprofessional bringing no gloves and no protective coverings. We were assured there would be blankets for the floors and blankets to have under the furniture when stacked. There wasn’t. Upon arrival we signed a contract, when asked for a copy at the end we were refused and told to get in contact with tony. Our quote was $200 for the truck and $75 an hour with a minimum of three hours. We were told by the movers to pay for 5 hours of hourly when everything was done in 4 hours AND a they were two hours late. They wouldn’t even open the door for the truck until we payed them, essentially holding their half filled moving truck hostage.

After coming home from working a 10 hour day I had to proceed to help my mother and her female friend unload the rest of the truck for the next 2 hours whilst the movers essentially shuffled around dragging their feet. They had tracked mud through our house and into our carpets which we now have to clean.

We had told tony we were moving out of a 3 bedroom townhouse which he referenced to many times as an “one bedroom apartment” even after we corrected him.

We have called tony and asked him what he will do to make things better for us in regards to our broken furniture, we can get no cooperation.

We are calling the numbers online to try to get in touch but our calls are actively being ignored as of lately.

The following pieces of furniture dropped, damaged, or broken:
Two (2) dressers
One (1) vanity
One (1) fireplace
One (1) television
Eight (8) sections of hardwood floor deeply scratched
One (1) hole in the wall of the house we JUST sold.

We believe this is the fault of the movers as we were told there would be protective equipment which there was not. We also believe they are to blame for damages as they did not use gloves, and did not lift things in the proper direction (all drawers fell out of dresser because they lifted it with the drawers downward). I myself watched them DRAG a dresser across bare hardwood floors because there wasn’t much space. Needless to say the floors are now noticeable scratched.

They did not brings tools and had actually asked me to go get them a hammer and a screwdriver so they could remove the door the bring our couch in.

After the whole catastrophe was done they did not end the meeting with a handshake and a goodbye. Simply said “we are done” in broken English and got in the truck and left. As if their job was done. They did not communicate with us the whole time they “moved” simply saying “what room” and moving everything into the corner of that room.

I have never in my life been more awestruck by the lack of complete respect and professionalism from ANY company. Not to mention the horrible customer service we’ve had.

BEWARE!! This is a scam!!

We called and specifically asked for a quote for 1 hr and one hour travel (for a small job with no truck just 2 movers) which was agreed a week in advance of the move. We asked about a minimum and we were assured there wasn’t one, which is why we agreed to use them. Once the 2 guys arrived they took the money and they worked 15 min. Then they stopped, manually changed the signed contract and said it would be a 4 hr minimum charge and wouldn’t complete the job without getting more money.

Not professionals.

This moving company did not send me professional movers. They don’t even bring their own packing tape and used mine!

My move was in the GTA. The guys were slow and did everything possible to prolong the time required (immediate washroom breaks when it was the first move of the day, carrying things with one hand with the other in a pocket). Always on their cell phones.

I am thankful I had a family member with me because one of us had to have eyes on them at all times. I waited to leave my first condo until I saw they started moving the truck, which took me waiting in the driveway watching them and waving at them to get going, otherwise they may have sat there a lot longer.

Furniture treatment: They had spent time trying to take apart my bed frame and didn’t have the right tools, which I’m glad I insisted it would fit if they just took off the headboard (which it did) so that I didn’t have to rebuild the entire bed on arrival. They then dragged my dark wood queen bed frame across the floor with no protection and scratched it all over. They tried to move it through the door length wise, when any person looking at the door could tell it only fits width up. On arrival, my headboard was leaned up against the truck and they let it fall and smash onto pavement, chipping and scratching it. They broke a tall mirror in the loading dock and made zero effort to clean it up. My mirrors and TV were not wrapped with blankets, and my couch/dresser were not plastic wrapped as usual with movers. They had NO mattress bags available to buy, and thankfully I had a mattress protector that ended up all dirty and dusty from being dragged across floors and the truck (at least that is washable). They don’t pack things logically in the truck and chipped both my white kitchen chairs in multiple places. Everything came out of the truck dusty and dirty.

Payment: they are unlike other moving companies in that they ask for a $150 deposit before the move starts, and tell you when your time is “up” and you need to pay again or they refuse to take your items off the truck, and quote “company policy”. Every other company I’ve dealt with gets you to sign at the beginning and pay at the end based on how long it took. It was at this forced mid-way payment that I told them they need to get their act together and get my bigger furniture pieces out of the truck, leave the smaller pieces downstairs for myself to do and leave. It was only at this point when I told them they can’t take unlimited hours to move a 1 bedroom condo with minimal furniture that they started to move at appropriate pace. I had already taken most personal items days before and there really wasn’t a lot to move - I’ve had other companies move more in half as much time as they would have taken if I hadn’t put my foot down. They later told me I had “5 minutes left” and as I could handle the rest, I dismissed them because I was furious and not paying a cent more. They would have far exceeded my 2-hour elevator booking at the destination.

I’d recommend anyone over these guys but Atlas Van Lines and El Cheapo movers are great people to work with and make moving a breeze - this experience was a stressful mess.

I did not get an itemized receipt of payment (only a credit card slip), and what I signed for was on regular paper with no carbon copy. They didn’t even introduce themselves on arrival so I don’t know their name.

My family member and I did most of the moving — they only had furniture to do and couldn’t even do that right!

I sure wish I had listened to the other reviews so please strongly consider mine especially if you like your furniture or are just a single person who will be taken advantage of.

Do NOT use this moving company!!!!

The worst moving company ever!! They stole my mothers jewelry! It took two movers 8 hours to move 5-10 pieces of furniture! They were busy trying to find a place to hide all of my mothers jewelry they had stolen. When I voiced my concern to the owner about the amount of time the movers were taking he shouted at me and was extremely unprofessional! The police were involved in this matter. The owner called my personal cell harassing me to remove my review and the police were contacted yet again. I am a teacher and have informed my colleagues NOT to use Gem movers! It was one of the WORST experiences in my life!!!!

Sorry to hear that but this is not the truth. Movers were worked hard to move your mother. In the apartment NO SERVICE ELEVATOR was available. That's the reason it took longer to finish the move. Movers were very nice & soft-spoken. In fact, you are the one who called in our office to admire the hard work of movers. In the end, movers gave you the bill you refused to pay the taxes. You got so annoyed that you start cursing two movers. Your allegation is baseless & you never involved any police because you know that you were lying. If something was missing you should definitely be reaching the authorities. It's very surprising to see a member of PCDSB lying online and trying to defame a reputable business. That's what you teach to your students. What a shame to the education system you earned the bread upon.
NOTE: In some reviews, you posted $800 service cost in some you are posting $500. You need to sort out which one is true.

Do not hire, Unreliable, Unprofessional

I booked a move for 4pm. My buildings elevator slot was also booked at 4pm. At 3:55 I got a call from the driver saying they were running 2-3 hours late, completely past my booked elevator time, with me unable to book another elevator today. I fly out tomorrow and needed my move to be complete and have been forced to make other arrangements. The company even went as far as to say it was my fault for not booking a long enough elevator slot. Not to mention I even called twice earlier in the day to confirm my 4pm appointment, and I believe I even mentioned my elevator slot. If you are looking for a company that values your time I would recommend looking somewhere else.

2 Bedroom Move.

I moved with gem movers last weekend with my family from 2 bedroom apartment to a house. The two men showed up on time Remy & Garry were very professional. They packed all the bigger items very quickly & load the truck just less than 3 hrs. They were very Friendly & honest with their work. I am espically greatful that they were vey careful. In their bill there was no extra cost & bill was not excedded than the quoted one. I have recmonded Gem moving company to my friends & would recommend to anyone looking for honest, reliable professional movers to help them with one of the most stressful task in life.

Dishonest.

BEWARE! Called them at the 416-854-6683 and spoke to a man named Nick who I assume is the one who books the appointments. He quoted a price of $70/hour for two men and a truck to do a move from a two bedroom apartment to a one bedroom apartment. We clearly asked if there were any other fees or anything else we should know but he said no that was it. When the movers arrived to our home on the moving day they said we needed to pay a deposit of $300 which Nick had not previously mentioned. BE SURE TO READ THEIR CONTRACT BEFORE YOU SIGN because it says that they charge for a minimum of 4 hours plus travel time for any move and here's the sketchy part -- "THE UNLOADING TIME WILL ESTIMATED BY THE LOADING PERIOD."Basically this is the part where they can manipulate you because in my experience with this company they estimated that it would take 3 hours to unload based on the fact that it took us that amount of time to load. HOWEVER, they were being dishonest because in reality we started loading at 9AM and we finished loading at around 11:10 AM which is just barely over 2 hours.

I SHOULD ALSO MENTION that the reason we finished loading is because we were helping the movers carry boxes and bags. The movers were taking their sweet time and if we had not helped it would have taken significantly longer!! Their estimate after the loading and before the beginning of unloading was 6 hours plus the one hour travel time charge (7 hours total). The estimate should have been 2 hours loading and 2 hours unloading plus the 1 hour travel time which would equal to 5 hours NOT 7. No one had explicitly said until the end of the job when I questioned them, that it doesn't matter if the job is done in a shorter time, that you still have to pay what their estimate was. When they moved me the job was completed in 4 and a half hours but because of their "estimate" they ended up charging me for 7 hours. That's not right. I feel like I was cheated because of the fact that they had not clearly communicated these little details prior to my booking with them. The dishonesty and lack of consideration on their part is what troubles me.

What made things worse is that they had damaged one of our dressers and covered it up by saying they 'removed' the feet and placed them in one of the drawers. It wasn't until after we had started to move things around after they left that we realized they had actually broken it. There were also scratches and chips on many of the wooden pieces of furniture we have as a result of their "care." When we called Nick to discuss the charges he said we should call him back in 20 minutes because it wasn't a good time. When we called him back after that he said he would look into it and get back to us which HE NEVER DID.  HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Will not be using them in the future and will be spreading the word to others as well!  .

Moving Nightmare.

Truly not trustworthy, inconsiderate and unprofessional! Charged 'twice' the quoted estimate, demanded 'CASH' upon arrival at delivery point even though it was previously agreed that we would be charging it on a credit card. They guessed at the unloading time and return trip driving time, back to their business and were 'greatly incorrect'. Couldn't back up the 16 ft van even though the parking area was huge and unobstructed. Both drivers took a stab at it and they both required help from the apartment manager. No items were wrapped as promised, walls and corridors were badly marked up. Boxes of contents were placed upside down or sideways. Attempt to settle this whole miserable moving experience has been ignored by GEM Moving. 'NO REPLY' back from GEM who state on their web site that their mission is to give excellent, courteous and professional service along with the best rates. SADLY, THEIR MISSION IS TO TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN. They don't even have their company name or any logo on their invoices. Pretty poor business practice but they don't seem to care. BEWARE!

Excellent Service on Last Minute.

We hired GEM Movers a week ago to help us to move in our new house on last min because the company we hired previously canceled on us an hour ago before the scheduled timings. Guy on phone insured us to provide a truck in an hour an half even though it was very busy time for them as well due to month end. Truck arrived on time, guys were very friendly and courteous, they didn't took any breaks, packed our furniture and fragile stuff very nicely. They load the truck properly , didn't left anything behind even though we had a lots of loss stuff. They also assembled all our furniture and put everything on the exact place where ever we want. They are best, affordable and professional. I would use them in future for sure and I also recommend them to others.

Really Awful Service. Scam Payment.

What can I say about these guys; well here's just a few things. Showed up late, blocked my toilet (yes you heard that right, guy asks to use to the toilet, blocks it, doesn't say anything, I had to unblock myself), scratched my furniture, marked/chipped the walls, and best of all they decided upon delivery that they would charge me an EXTRA $350 from the agreed upon price. AND they wanted me to pay some of it in cash so they didn't have to report it to their boss and pocket the money (yes if you're reading this Boss Man, your guys are running a racket underneath you). Just a terrible, terrible service.

Also all the 5 star reviews are complete fabrication from accounts with only one or two reviews. RUN AWAY, QUICKLY.

Very very bad and unprofessional.

Holy cow! What a horrible experience. Make yourself a favour: do not even consider using this company. In retrospect, we read all the comments again and we can only say that we broadly agree with all the bad ones. In particular, whenever the comment receives an answer, whatever that comment says, explains a similar experience to the one we had. It is a very bad company. Stay away. However, I will provide details for you to see what type of scam you are running into when you hire these guys.
Here some details:
1) They show up on time, make us sign a contract with a 150$ deposit. Showing up on time is a relief: two days before the move they called and told us they'd come the day before we had agreed.
2) They start unscrewing all the furniture, move everything to the truck. No particularly fast, but not slow either. They ask us for tools. Every now and then they are on the phone, talking. It is not bothering me at that time.
3) We agree to meet in the new place (about a twenty minutes drive).
4) It takes them over an hour to show up.
5) When they arrive, they say that we have to pay them in advance, with an estimate they make on how long it is going to take. Their estimate is longer than what I expect, and I say we prefer to pay at the end. A very unfriendly person, who seems to be the boss, gets to their phone, they pass him to me, and the gentleman starts yelling. Since all our stuff is on the truck, I agree and pay. They say they will pay back if they stay shorter than agreed.
6) They start moving things inside the new house. Extremely slowly. I wonder what is going on: I catch the movers sleeping in the truck two different times. I say I am not paying for them to sleep, and they reluctantly go back to work. The majority of the moving happens with their phones between their ears and their shoulders. They cannot stop talking on their phone, eventually getting annoyed with the person on the other side, and stop working for a good ten minutes at a time.
7) They start assembling furniture. They only work if I am next to them, watching. Over an hour to re-build a piece that I had built in 20 minutes when bought new from Ikea. I now have two wooden pieces that used to belong to that bed on the table. The guys told me that "they were not necessary."
8) They rebuild the sofa. At the end, two more pieces "are not needed either." Metallic ones, this time.
9) A quick look at everything they brought: a broken lamp, a number of pillows with a weird, black, sticky substance that we have no idea how to take out (our guess is it comes from the truck), and the four pieces that "are no longer needed" from our furniture on the table.
10) It takes them about twenty minutes more than the time I had already paid. I told them: between the extra time it took for you to arrive, the two times I caught you sleeping in the truck, the badly assembled furniture, the broken lamp, the extra times doing nothing.. I let you go now without asking you to give me a refund. That angry boss on the phone again, asking me to pay him for a whole more hour. I explain everything to him, and he would not reason, he would stick to the song that I get to pay them for one full more hour. I am still shocked.

Epilogue: One of the guys left his jacket in the first house --- the house the distance of which is twenty minutes away, but that took them over an hour to do the first time. Although angry, I tell them I am going to pick it for them. It takes me 20 minutes to arrive. I had left earlier than them, so I expect I will have to wait for them with the jacket in my hands. They were already there.

Awful.

Shouldn't even have one star. They were 35 minutes late, they didn't even know my name to ask for me at concierge. within that time of them being late, my roomate and I moved ALL OF MY FURNITURE down. When they arrived they walked around stunned even though all my move was already set up for them. Roommate and I proceeded to move the things into the truck and then one of the guys was missing, when I asked where the other guy was,, was told he was in the washroom (fine, he's human but he was gone over 20 minutes- literally paying for this man to take a s**t ) called the owner to arrange deposit and he changed it from $150 to $200. Tony made up an excuse that I must have spoken to another worker about the deposit but he's got a very annoying ride voice that you won't forget. Argued it and said I would pay the rest once it's done. Took about 15 minutes for me, roommate and 1 slow clueless mover to load truck.the truck was a mess. Moving blankets in bundles all over the back I had to go rearrange them. When we arrived to my location 20 minutes later they wanted more money. I said I would pay once unloaded . They closed the truck door with all of my things in it refusing to let me get in for my belongings. Was going to call the police.. Tony called me screaming at me. Called me a bitc* and an idiot. I couldn't deal with these morons anymore so agreed to another 70 because he didn't want me to call the police (tried to charge more if I didn't threaten with police) by this time it had only bit over one hour roommate and I did 95 percent of move AND I HAVE A BROKEN ANKLE . Their service was USELESS to us. We could have rented a truck instead since they barely did anything other than trying to keep getting more money .. Just found out that they are unlicensed. The movers literally don't know how to load a truck or maneuver items. They are not trained movers. I had paid 200 dollars for a bag to cover my mattress and they ripped it off to move it into the room. Its all a scam, I had to send money through online banking so they wont pay taxes on it too. It's not the movers fault, they are his puppets who was receiving calls every two minutes and told to close the truck door with my belongings in it. , owner Tony is a dirt bag . Stay away!! Let's see what he replies to this.. He continues to reply to bad reviews that he's never moved so and so with that name. The dummy never took my name and couldn't even give it to concierge. There's no way on God's green earth that this guy has five stars. I think he works his workers to the bone while he sits on his lazy rude scamming a** and writes good reviews about himself. He's a disgusting human being. Who talks to clients like that?. Roommate wanted to go meet him in person and put his brainless head through the wall. Will report to BBB and CRA. Can't wait to see Tony the SUMBAGS reply LOL..don't use his company. Just stress AND a scam. NOTE TO TONY.. WANT TO CALL ME A B*TCH AND IDIOT? DO YOU FEEL GOOD ABOUT THAT? I HOPE SO BECAUSE MY REVIEW IS GOING TO LOSE YOU ALOT OF CUSTOMERS AND MONEY YOU HUNGRY MONEY DIRTBAG. get some class you uneducated dirt bag!
